Shape Shifters Devlog #12: Skills, UI, & More!


Hi everyone, and welcome yet again to new Devlog! Today we'll be taking a look at how some of the things mentioned in Devlog #11 have progressed! There's a lot to share and a lot to get excited about so let's just get into it.

Skills

I've got some WIP footage of all three dagger skills to share! 

Here they are:

please note: footage is test footage and Slice will not one-shot enemies at update release



The first dagger skill! Slice! Will let you tear through enemies and create openings you may not have had before.
The second Dagger skill! Slash! Good for dealing damage and getting a quick retreat!
The third Dagger skill! Slam! Will let you grab enemies and deal AoE damage to any enemy caught in the blast!

Using these great skills will come at the cost of SP! So choose wisely when you need to use them!

Shift System & UI!

I am also working on creating the UI that will allow you to manage the Shift system! It's essentially a skill tree, including passive stat changes and skill mutations that'll change the way they play! 

Heres a little bit of navigation, the pop up window is heavily incomplete but it will allow you to see more details on each different Shift when you hover your mouse over their icon. Each of these will have a different set up ranks you can upgrade to, and cost a different amount of HP to unlock!

You can switch between tabs to see either "Fora" shifts which are passives that allow for different stat boosts, allowing for greater customization or different weapon Shifts for example "Daggers" that allow you to unlock different skill mutations!

Enemy Changes!

I am also progressively working to "tighten" enemy behavior. I will be giving them upgraded looks and new textures! I will also be adding several visual effects to their attacks to improve visibility and make them look prettier!

New Story Content!

As I said in the previous Devlog, I am working on adding more to the story before entering the Mutant Lands! You will get more time with Fora to understand their character and learn more of the Shape Lands! This will be a section with Fora allowing you to freely roam the castle and meet different characters before the events of the tutorial! I hope to expand more of the pre-Mutant section of the game AND improve the actual cave section by a ton as well! Fixing all the bugs and issues with the two bosses, improving their mechanics, and getting tighter level design, not only that but I also will be giving the cave a new parallel moving background that better shows it off! I would really like for you to feel like you are "stuck" in this cave, but I want the cave to be wondrous and mysterious.


Conclusion

Woah! That's a lot of changes, skills, new systems, improved enemies, cave enhancements, and new area!

I will to get this all out in an update mid-September! So please stay tuned until that release to view all news on the game!
